Stay Healthy with Regular Physicals
Prioritize your health with gynecological care from Lowcountry OB/GYN. Our dedicated physicians perform physicals, including annual wellness exams, to help you stay on track. We believe in taking a proactive approach to health care with a focus on prevention. Our goal is to enable you to live a healthy life while exploring any potential concerns in order to determine necessary treatment options. We invite you to make an appointment with one of our dedicated physicians today.
What to Expect from Your Physical
We want you to feel as comfortable as possible visiting our office, so we are committed to creating a friendly and welcoming environment. During your physical, we will take and record vital signs and other basic health data, including:
- Blood Pressure
- Heart Rate
- Respiration Rate
We also listen to your breathing and your heartbeat using a stethoscope to hear if there are any discernible irregularities – such as wheezing in the lungs or a heart murmur – that need to be addressed further. This is also the time to discuss your medical history as well as any current concerns or symptoms you may be experiencing.
Once a year it is recommended to receive a physical pelvic exam to evaluate the health of your reproductive organs. This only lasts a few minutes and is simply to assess if there are any abnormalities present. We may also perform a pap smear in which a swab is taken of the inside of the cervix to test for cervical cancer. It is suggested to have pap smear performed every 3 – 5 years depending on your age.
We encourage every woman to do a self breast exam at least once a month, but we will also perform this for you during your annual physical. The exam is both visual and physical, and involves assessing the size and shape of your breasts as well as feeling if there are any lumps present. A lump is not always cancer, it could be a cyst or other infection, but it is always important to get checked out and rule out all possibilities.
